Lois Hertzler specializes in creating fresh, bold photographs that
capture
the color and form of flowers.
She is a highly committed, professional
artist whose approach is process-driven rather than goal-orientated. I
get
drawn into a scene and sit there for a while to get a sense of my
subject.
My aim is to catch its essence at a moment in time, rather than taking
in a
total picture, says Hertzler.
Though originally trained as an educator, Boston-based freelancer Lois
Hertzler has been involved in photography since childhood. Her early
Brownie
Reflex days gave way to basic Nikons and then on to more and more
sophisticated equipment and accessories. She alternates between
traditional
35mm film and digital photography, depending on her subject.
Her current concentration is on the macro exploration of individual
floral
patterns that grew from her love of gardening. Hertzler photographs
these
images with a digital camera and then prints them in her Studio using
fine
art paper and archival inks. Her clean, vibrant work catches the
personality
and beauty of the natural world.
To preserve the uniqueness and integrity of her work, she now only
offers
limited editions of her high-end, original, non-standard sized
photographs.
Each print is signed and numbered.
Hertzler also exhibits collections of Beach Treasures and Edible Illuminations using a digital scanography technique.
Her current collections may be viewed at the Local Colors Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts or by appointment.
