Mya R. Nelson
I make both home goods and furniture, combining traditional and modern woodworking techniques to achieve a modern design that will endure. I tend towards clean lines and curves. Achieving a sense of flow is a major focus of my work.
Many of my pieces involve a variety of techniques and hand shaping. I practiced woodworking regularly part-time until my passion for the craft led me to leave my job of science writing and move into the field professionally. I then attended The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and have learned from many expert craftspeople over the years. Much of my joy in woodworking comes from the making, bringing together the science and precision with the forms and beauty in the natural world.
